Aleh Ferreira & Brazilian Locomotiva (BRA/FIN)
Aleh is an experienced Rio de Janeiro-born singer-songwriter, whose versatile composing skills have taken him in many parts of the world during the years. The Latin funk, afro soul, reggae and samba rock infused music on his two personal albums, Mpbsoulsambagroove (2003) and Aleh+Samba (2011), combine a wide range of influences into his Brazilian soul all the way from Jorge Ben Jor and Tim Maia to artists like Marvin Gaye and Bob Marley. One of his merits was in the beginning of this decade actively helping to revive the legendary Brazilian 70’s funk and soul band Banda Black Rio and performing as a singer with them on tour. He has also produced music for famous artists of the genre such as Cassiano.
Currently based in London, Aleh has been giving his final touches recently to his latest solo album Baile de Máscaras produced by Max Grunhard from the acknowledged afro electro group Ibibio Sound Machine. At the Funky Elephant the stage will be taken over by the local Brazilian Locomotiva collective, which consists of Finnish and Brazilian professional musicians already well familiar to him. The band has backed up other Brazilian singers lately as well from Sergio Bastos to Denise Fontoura, so the rhythm, groove and funky touch will be just where they should be for Aleh’s tight sweaty Latin funk and sensual afro soul.
