About Funky Elephant Festival

The revised version of the event is a boutique-style festival with a focus on a unique experience, inspirational details, and a multidisciplinary programme inviting the audience to participate actively. At Funky Elephant you can dive into the underground of subcultures instead of fighting your way through big masses of spectators who want to see a glimpse of their favorite pop star. At this festival you will enjoy the trends of the future at their source when they are at their most authentic phase.

During your Funky Elephant adventure, you can take part in the first dance ping pong contest of history, play yard games, bath in sauna or listen to inspiring storytelling at the Feel Good Garden theme area or visit the visually awesome 3D shadow club. Inside the intimate festival area, you may as well run into an interesting spoken word performance, witness an unexpected street dance show, or find aesthetic experiences in the hidden corners of Suvilahti. The Food Bazaar will serve a wide range of tasty delicacies on both days.

We have not forgotten the groovy rhythm music in the funky spirit of bands and deejays, which will put your hips swinging and heart beating. Versatile music programme will provide different nuances, tempos and styles from local acts to international stars for each and every one of us who dig and love the funky rhythm music.

Funky Elephant brings together people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds to enjoy and work together in the spirit of peace, love, and solidarity.

From the downtown clubs to the cultural milieu of Suvilahti

Funky Elephant has highlighted black rhythm music acts, subcultures and styles to the Finnish audience already for 22 years. The festival has made it possible for dozens of legendary artists, such as Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Tony Allen, Joe Bataan, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, The Coup, Bonobo ja Congo Natty, to perform for the first time in Finland. Besides this, numerous Finnish upcoming artists have been introduced at the Funky Elephant before they have risen to the top level of domestic stardom.

Until this, Funky Elephant along with its side events was organized every spring in the Kamppi district with the main event earlier at Tavastia and Seminal clubs and later on at The Circus event center. This year the festival moves to autumn season as well as to a new location.

Funky Elephant’s new festival area will cover the blocks, yards and premises of the cultural milieu of Suvilahti in Helsinki during the weekend (Sat & Sun) of 9th and 10th of September, 2017. Sunday will focus on activities and is a free-entry event without an age limit. Advance tickets for the festival Saturday (age limit: 18 years) are currently on sale.
